Air B&B Outrage

AIR B&B OUTRAGE: A small B.C. family business has been blacklisted by the “Air B&B” internet website, apparently because they offer a clothing-optional pool. They have operated on the site for six years, and are a five star superhost with over 400 five star reviews, but their whole profile and all their listings have disappeared from the website.

Airbnb says they will not tolerate “Content that endorses or promotes illegal or harmful activity, or that is sexually explicit, violent, graphic, threatening, or harassing”.

They would really appreciate it if NIFTY members would send letters / email / twitter / messaging / texting responses to airbnb, and/or personally write private emails or letters to Joe Gebbia: Co-founder of Airbnb.

Something along the lines of:

“It has come to my attention that conservative airbnb ambassadors are removing host listings who have advertised themselves as clothing optional, and listings containing photos of non-sexualized nude bodies with no nipples or genitals (as would be approved on Instagram or Facebook). As forward thinking urbanites, you likely have no need to censor basic bodies, nor do you want to promote archaic anti-body phobia on airbnb. Perhaps it is time to update your policy around body images to be more in line with other social media leaders and step into 2022. It is time to move forward, and with your new airbnb search categories, a clothing optional heading would definitely lead the way for real life experiences, while allowing those who are more conservative to steer clear. As you may be aware, clothing optional is among today’s fastest-growing leisure/travel markets.”

Something along those lines would be very helpful in guiding airbnb towards more inclusive policy. Thank-you for your engagement, care and attention.

I just sent them the following email,
I just read on niftynude.org that you have blacklisted the use of your service to an individual who provided a clothing optional pool on their property. I am saddened by your decision to blacklist this individual, as anybody who used the pool would be using it knowing and consenting to its use as a clothing optional pool and nobody adverse to the idea of nudity was forced to use it. I have been to monthly clothing optional swims at Templeton Pool which the NIFTY group rented out in the months prior to the pandemic and it’s a group of friendly people swimming and socializing, most of them without a bathing suit. I have never seen anything untoward happening at any of these swim evenings, and I have no reason to believe that anything untoward was happening at the clothing optional pool that you blacklisted at this airBNB either.

    1. Thank-you for your engagement David. We appreciate your positive energy to help airbnb figure out a more liberal policy to include humans who like to sun and swim au natural in North America where beautiful secluded private clothing optional spaces are entirely legal.
      Sincerely,
      Colin & Alexandra Proctor
